Seven Week Courses - End of Semester Notes

Monday, September 30, 2019 - 3:15pm

If you are teaching a seven week course that started at the beginning of the Fall 2019 semester, there are a few things you should be aware of as the seven week term winds down:

  1. Unmute assignments - Students will not see their grade calculated correctly if there are muted assignments.  To prevent student confusion, make sure to unmute all assignments.
  2. Enter zeros in the gradebook for missing assignments - The gradebook does not automatically enter zeros for missing grades. By leaving a missing grade in the gradebook, the final grade for a student with a missing assignment will be calculated with that assignment removed from the grade calculation (ie a higher grade that is not accurately reflecting the student's actual grade).  You can enter zeros in the gradebook manually, or you can use the Set Default Grade.
  3. Review grades in the total column - Make sure that Canvas is correctly calculating your grades and that the final grade matches the grade distribution in your syllabus.
  4. Send grades to PeopleSoft - Now you can send your final grades directly from Canvas to PeopleSoft by using the Canvas guide: Send Grades to PeopleSoft.  You can still use the old way of uploading grades via MyU if you do not want to send grades from Canvas.
